Fisheries Officers changes
Here’s what we’ve done so far:
Petition 1: 23,081 signatures – dismissed (change.org)
Petition 2: 21,789 signatures – formally tabled, then brushed aside
Petition 3: This one triggers an official investigation.
Steve Dimopoulos MP and the Victorian Fisheries Authority have cut 44% of Fisheries Officers and closed regional stations — with no risk assessments, no accountability, and no answers.
This new petition forces the issue into Parliament. They must respond.
Sign before 31 July:
https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/get-involved/petitions/victorian-fisheries-authority-workforce-changes/Feel free to discuss the changes and petition with your other angling friends. Want to go the extra step? Contact your state politicians with your objections to the changes.
Boat Safety / Inspections
WNAC will be conducting boat inspections (motor function, lights, flares, safety equipment and general boat safety / upkeep (sea worthy) and cleanliness) prior to the start of the next season, likely as part of the July Information Night. Any boat failing the boat inspection may not be allowed to participate in club activities and may need to get a seaworthy certificate before being able to use the boat. The legal risk to the club is too great and with a bit of ‘love and attention’ to your boat prior to inspection, everything will be fine.
Please consider this when planning your boat cleanup and motor service (if required) over the winter months.
Life jacket safety inspections will likely occur at the August information night.
Cans and Stubbies etc Recycling
WNAC now has bins to make the transportation of the cans and stubbies etc to the recycling centre easier. THESE BINS ARE NOT FOR GENERAL RUBBISH and the lids of these bins have notes with these details. Do not place any rubbish into these bins. Do you know of, or have any abandoned bins? We need more bins to make the transportation of the recycling easier.
Other Items
Committee nominations for next season are open. Please consider joining the committee and helping out WNAC. See the whiteboard on the wall near the office for details.
Bunnings sausage sizzle on the 9th of August. Volunteers required. See the whiteboard at WNAC.
The major working bee will be on Saturday 30th August. Book out your calendar now. Many hands make light work.
The hoist fuse had blown causing issues. It has been repaired. Please don’t raise the hoist all the way to the top. Leave two chain links showing.
Tuna trip in May 2026. See Brian Egan if you are interested in attending. Brian is organising a fourth boat.
Seeking an expression of interest of members and friends that are interested in obtaining their Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) certificate. WNAC will likely reimburse the cost of the course if you can help out (regularly) behind the bar at the club. Please see a committee member at the club on a Wednesday night to discuss before taking the course.
The syllabus has been finalised. The date listed will be a Sunday but either day over the weekend and Friday evening can be nominated and voted on. The final syllabus will be released soon.
Thanks.
